Access FAQs


Q. I do not have my user name or password or my user name and password are not working.

A1: New Subscribers. If you are a new subscriber, your username was emailed to you on the day you purchased BRT. The email sender is BackRoomTechnician@advisys.com with a subject line of ”New Back Room Technician (BRT) Account Activation.“ If you cannot find the email, please check your Spam or Junk Mail folder. Depending on your security settings, it may have been diverted there.

If you cannot find the email, please call our Technical Support line at 949.752.8613.

Sign In areaA2: Renewing Subscribers. If you have forgotten your password, click ”Click here to retrieve your password“ on the log in screen.

An email will be generated and sent to your email address of record. The sender will be BackRoomTechnician@advisys.com. If you do not receive the email within minutes, check your Spam or Junk Mail folder. Depending on your security settings, it may have been diverted there.

The email will contain a password and link for you to sign in at BRTnow.com. You will then be asked to change your password.

Q: What are the requirements for creating a password?

A: For security purposes, your password must be at least eight digits, contain a mix of upper and lower case letters and include at least one symbol or number. Example: ”Newuser7.“

Q: I received an error saying I’m locked out. What do I do now?

A: If you get the message ”Account locked out. Please contact your administrator.,“ it means you have made too many attempts to access the application. This is a security measure to keep out unauthorized users.

Please call our Technical Support line at 949.752.8613 to reactivate your account.

Q: How do I access my BRT account?

A: Visit www.brtnow.com and click ”Sign In“ on the upper right corner of the screen.

shortcutQ: How do I create a shortcut for BRT on my computer?

A: To create a shortcut to BRT on your desktop, go to the log in screen at www.brtnow.com.

Select the website by clicking once on the icon next to the web address. Left click your mouse, and while holding the left button down, drag the icon to your desktop. It will create a shortcut to the web page as shown.

favoriteQ: How do I add BRT as a favorite?

A: To add to your favorites, open your browser and go to the log in screen at www.brtnow.com.Locate the Favorites option on your browser’s menu and select Add to Favorites. Or, press ”Ctrl D“ on your keyboard.

Creating and emailing PDFs FAQs


create pdfQ: How do I create a pdf?

A: To create a pdf, first select the single report you want to use; or create a presentation. If you are creating a presentation, be sure to click the Preview button in order to assemble the presentation. You can then save it as a pdf or print it.

Once your report or presentation is ready, click the Save PDF in the left icon screen.

A File Download box appears. Click Save, choose a location and name the file. To find it easily, you may want to save it to your desktop.

Q: How do I email a pdf?

A: First create the pdf. (To learn how to create a pdf, please refer to the above question.) Once you have saved your pdf file, go to your email application. Click on add attachment and a dialogue box opens. Find the pdf file you want to email and double click it. The file is now attached to your email.

Presentation FAQs


print presentationQ: My presentation will not print or save as pdf. It only prints or saves one report. How can I fix this issue?

A: After you have finished creating your presentation, you must click Preview to complete it. Once you hit preview, you can view the presentation in the viewing pane on the right. BRT will print or save as pdf according to what is in the right viewing pane. If you haven’t previewed your presentation, it will only print the report that is visible.

Q: What are the minimum system requirements for BRT when running from the Internet?

System Requirements:

  • Windows 2000 - Service Pack 4; Windows XP - All Editions; Vista - All Editions; Windows 7 - All Editions
  • Intel Pentium III 500 MHz or AMD Athlon equivalent
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 128 Kbs Internet connection
  • Adobe Reader 6 or greater with latest service packs.
  • Adobe Acrobat Browser Plug-in must be installed and enabled for PDF viewing in a browser
  • 1024 x 768 Screen resolution


Browser Requirements:

  • Internet Explorer versions 6 (with latest service packs) through 8.0
  • Google Chrome 3 or greater
  • Firefox 3.x

import clientQ: How do I import a client file?

A: To import a client file, or to access your current desktop BRT client files, go to the File menu and click Import Client.

When you do, a browse box appears. To access your current BRT files, browse to where the files are. Below is the default path. If you saved them somewhere else, you will need to browse to that location.

C:\Program Files\KPC\Data (for XP and other non-Vista users)

C:\KPC\Data (for Vista only)

The client files are in the Data folder. They are the ones with the extension of .kpf. Select the file you want to import and click on the Open button in the browse box.

A progress bar will appear, letting you know that BRT is opening the file. Once the bar disappears, look for the file name in the top bar of your screen.

A: Advisys updates materials six to nine times per year to ensure you have the latest legal and statistical information on today’s financial topics.
